Still Under Construction...We're Getting There!
History and Purpose:

Over forty years ago the Clemson Sailing Club was founded by 5 dedicated students to provide students and faculty with the opportunity to sail on beautiful Lake Hartwell.  While the club’s primary function is to be a place where sailors can enjoy their hobby and sport, prior sailing knowledge is not necessary to be a member of the club.  There are many opportunities for members to get involved, whether it is by taking learn to sail classes, participating in intercollegiate regattas across the Southeast, or gaining valuable leadership experience as an officer on the club’s executive board.

One of the main attractions of the club is the access it provides students and faculty to Lake Hartwell.  Located in close proximity to campus, the Sailing Club allows students to relax on or near the water after a stressful day or week of classes.  For club members who have no previous sailing experience or those who wish to refresh their skills, learn to sail classes are offered, free of charge.  Many of the club’s most active sailors join the club with no previous sailing experience whatsoever.  We have also continued to hold interclub regattas which pair experienced members with new members in order to increase knowledge of sailing, build relationships, and have some fun sailing.  Through these classes and interclub regattas, members have learned skills that they can use throughout their lives.

In addition to learn to sail classes, the Clemson Sailing Team, composed of club members, allows sailors to refine their skills and compete in regattas at venues ranging from Annapolis to Miami.  Sailing, unlike many others, is a sport in which a sailor can continue to compete at different skill levels throughout his or her life.  While college sailing does emphasize competition, the camaraderie of collegiate sailing is second to none, with many friendships lasting a lifetime

Facilities:

The Clemson Sailing Club's rustic setting will take you back to the beginnings of the club and show you how much fun members, past and present, have had!  We take pride in our facilities and the fun that they have brought generations of Clemson students.  We might not have a big-bad club house, but our sheds, deck, and fire pit offer just as much fun to yacht club sailors as they do back-yard lake sailors!  Come down to the club and you'll see what we mean.
